This town located in Mazowiecka Lowland, only 20 km north-east of Warsaw and classified on the high position among attractive cities of that region, because of its dynamically developing in respect of economy. However, Wo這min's inhabitants certainly could be proud of its history and tradition place, where cultural and economical events are concentrated during several decades. Especially the increase of the Wo這min's significance and authority followed the lost of previous importance by Radzymin. Despite of that, the city has got generally remarkable urban character and there are represented the strong local enterprise and craft work, the irresistible charm of the area is created by its wide variety too.

HISTORY

The earliest mentions about Wo這min date back to the 15th century and inform, that place under the name Zaci璚iwie has existed and was mentioned as early as in the years 1478-1501. Next in 16th century a royal village was taken over by the Wo這mu雟ki family and then the Nakwaski family, finally in 1794 Wawrzyniec Meyer- a freshly ennobled townsman of Warsaw purchased Wo這min. The development of the settlement was noted especially in the 19th century, when this place often changed its owners. One of the most important effects on the development of the settlement has Henryk Konstanty Wojciechowski- an architect by profession-who purchased the granges of Wo這min. He has managed several kinds of activity, but the construction's plan of factory settlement with a market square in its centre is worth for especial attention. Particularly in the early 20th century the following facilities were established: craft works, shops, restaurants, wayside inn, an inn, a hotel with the high-sounding name "Bristol" and two horse-drawn tram lines. In 1902 the first factory was established and three years later the glassworks "Wo這min" was opened. In 1918 Poland regained its independence and the post of the Polish Military Army disarmed the soldiers of the aggressive army. Next year brought several events and the most dramatic and important in history of this region- the greatest battles against the Bolsheviks, well - known as "the miracle on the Vistula River". The future of Warsaw, Poland and of course the whole central part of Europe was decided on the foregrounds of Wo這min, Oss闚 and Radzymin. The one of heroes that times was the priest Ignacy Skorupka- a regiment chaplain, who died in this battle leading the soldiers to attack against the enemy. His name went down in history, also the cemetery- mausoleum in Oss闚, which was built as a commemoriam of soldiers' heroism at that time, is the place of that reminder events. During the Second Republic of Poland Wo這min was quickly developing and there were established seven plants, the sports club "Huragan", a power station, three primary schools and many social and local government organisations. After World War Two Wo這min for short time lost its importance as a summer resort, however, it began to develop as an industrial centre. Moreover, in the second half of this century education flourished in Wo這min, there were established several kinds of schools, for example: technical, economical and schools of business. In 1999 Wo這min after the administrative reform became second time a poviat city.

CHARACTER OF REGION

The certain attraction of city, which cultural life is very abounding and diversified is activity of the Zofia and Wac豉w Na趾owscy Museum. This outpost is organising meetings and cultural events, particularly in the field of poetry and painting for Wo這min residents throughout the whole year. Another organisation, which serves as a centre of cultural life in answer to the needs and expectations of different local environments, is Municipal Culture Centre. Although it is a 20th-century city, Wo這min was being established as a settlement of municipal character much earlier. Many buildings, which were erected before World War One today are included into the record of historical objects of Wo這min counting almost 70 items. An interesting architectonic fact is that Wo這min has two "old towns"- the first one in the area of the railway station and the other one in the district of Wiktoryn designed by H. K. Wojciechowski. The oldest historical building in Wo這min is the office of Warsaw- St. Petersburg railway from 1863. Besides there are some more objects, which are worth mentioning, for example: the edifice of Primary School No.1 from 1905 in Wile雟ka Street, the tenement house with wall paintings from 1908 in Ogrodowa Street and the former magistrate from 1910 in Legion闚 Street. The wooden summerhouse, where Zofia Na趾owska used to live is the one of the well-known historical building in this region. This house was erected in 19th century and restored several years ago for museum devoted for the activity of the writer- the author of such books as "Dom nad ㄠkami"('A house on Meadows'), 'Medalions' and her father-Wac豉w Na趾owski- a famous publicist and geographer. On a hill opposite the Museum is situated the palace 'Laurentin' from 1915. This villa is built in the style of guesthouse architecture from Crimea and converted in baroque style with classicist elements several years ago. A rare example of wooden buildings in Siberian baroque style in Mazovia is the House under the Acacia from 1883, called 'Rohn闚ka' (its constructor Russian colonel had name Rohn). Wo這min has got also the sacral monuments, such as the Romanesque chapel from 1905 attached to the church of Our Lady of Cz瘰tochowa. However, despite of the architectonic curiosities, Wo這min has been identified with places of national remembrance connected with the battle of Warsaw in 1920 and the Miracle on the Vistula River. These historical events have rooted very deeply in the consciousness of every Pole and they are commemorated every year in August during the celebration of the anniversary, when are present also the representatives of the state authorities. The community of Wo這min is also known for its propagation of rich traditions of agricultural and agrotourist character. In addiction, the certain value of this region is 'Grabicz'- a faunal reserve with varied flora established in order to protect water reservoirs and land that are a habitat of many species of birds. A bicycle route along the trail of Warsaw battles connecting the On-the-Vistula River bicycle trail with the soldiers' cemetery in Radzymin, there is another attraction, which are prepared not only for local tourists. Besides, Wo這min- that is the city, which is characterised by dynamic development and its convenient location, which are opening many possibilities for investing in several branches such as: consumer goods industry, electronics, location of warehouses for large transportation companies, wholesalers, housing and expansion of tourist-recreational base-also for Warsaw residents. The well-developed infrastructure of Wo這min as regards transportation, services and administration and of course its localisation near the transit route heading towards absorptive eastern markets of Russia and Lithuania, taking care of running business activity.
