CHARACTER OF REGION
Thanks to its location on a crossing of trade routes, Jadów was bestowed with a trade charter and a right to organize fairs in 1475. In 1483, during the rule of Mazovian Prince Bolesław IV, the parish of Jadów was founded. Jadów experienced its heyday in the 19th century. In 1823, thanks to the efforts of count Stanisław Zamoyski, Jadów obtained its civic rights. Unfortunately the growth of the town was stalled by the January Uprising of 1864. One of the most famous residents of the town was Leon Bokiewicz, a doctor and author of the best description of the poviat that was published in the second half of the 19th. century Jadów was the birthplace of Generał Gustaw Orlicz-Dreszer, a commander of Warsaw during the May coup of 1926, who was in charge of the Piłsudski troops. In 1930-1936 he was chairman of the Maritime and Colonial League, fighting for the Polish rights to Gdańsk. The township is very attractive as regards its tourist values. A significant part of the region has been incorporated into the Nabdużański Landscape Park. One of the most attractive natural and tourist highlights is the "Śliże" reserve. It is a peat resen/e established in 1981 covering the area of 44.29 ha. It contains two smali dystrophic lakes, which were formed as a result of stripping the peat. The reserve features several protected plant species such as common sundew, common white water lily, marsh tea, lily of the valley, and alder buckthorn. There are also nests of mute swans, ducks and other waterfowl.
Numerous natural phenomena are spread throughout the area. Clean waters of rives contribute to the growing number of habitats of beavers and otters. The local rivers abound in fish.
The area also highlights the famous health resort of Urle, which has been known since the eariy 20th century. Tourist will find here excellent conditions for leisure, hiking and biking trips, mushroom hunting, and angling. The village of Urle is located among pine forests, which create a specific microclimate. There are also great conditions for bathing and sunbathing on the Liwiec River.
