Wołomin Poviat was established in its present shape on January 1, 1999. Its territory refers to the formed in 1867 Radzymin Poviat as well as Wołomin Poviat functioning in 1952-1975. It is one of the biggest poviats of the Mazovian Voivodeship. It covers the area of
955.37 km2, 58% of which accounts for
arable land, 23%
forests, and 19%
built-up area. In the north the poviat borders on the
Bug and
Liwiec Rivers. Wołomin Poviat comprises the following 12 townships (gminas):

Jadów,
Klembów,
Kobyłka,
Marki,
Po¶więtne,
Radzymin,
Strachówka,
Tłuszcz,
Wołomin,
Z±bki and
Zielonka, inhabited by
over 185,000 people. Seven townships, including:
Kobyłka,
Marki,
Radzymin,
Tłuszcz,
Wołomin,
Z±bki and
Zielonka, have civic rights. Radzymin received these rights as the first one as early as 1475, and never has lost them. The poviat's capital is
Wołomin, which is populated by nearly 40,000 residents. It Sa a resilient center of economic and cultural life.
